about

Life, the first single released from Daman’s eponymous album is finally coming out! A striking Rub-a-Dub marked by the influence of Black Uhuru, The Congos and Pupajim.

For ten years and after numerous collaborations with Zion Train and Jah Tubbys, among others, Daman brings his own contribution to the dub scene with his libertarian aspirations and attachment to Groove and Roots music.

Daman is notably collaborating with Roots Heritage, a Reggae veteran band who composed Words From The Brave by Max Romeo, and will soon be releasing their first Levelution album with Ariwa Sounds.

With this Life single, Daman touches upon a matter close to his heart, namely freedom rights: freedom to realize oneself, freedom to break free from one’s shackles, and freedom to overcome social determinisms. Daman reminds that the first source of censorship is above all else our own mental barriers, and challenges us to reflect on the need to ourselves build the bridges and side roads necessary to achieve real emancipation.

His Life single prefaces an album of elaborate instrumental compositions, where brass instruments, coupled with his sharp mixes, punctuate vocals that are both voluble and lethal.

lyrics

VERSE 1
Like like a child
wanna wanna move and live wild
don't wanna be just like a file
don't wanna live in exile
I wanna try
before i man a die
to draw and build my style
not to live high on a lie

CHORUS
Life seems to be dead (got to)
kill the cops in my head
all the same we look full of dread
wanna be me and not ahead

VERSE 2
Schools and institutions broke up my imagination
real colonization
locked up inna mental prison
against my evolution
We've been raised to be submissive workers
to follow orders of the so called leaders
we've been told to be docile citizen
and to teach this to your children

VERSE 3
The first cop stand in our brain
we got to break our mental chain
we get used to be just a number
a little piece in the fool crusher
I need to live on my own
but never as another clone
even if i stand alone
lost like a stranger in a hostile zone
